MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team produced chances but didn't convert on any of them in a 4-0 loss to Crown College on Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Field.
What would turn out to be the game-winning goal came in just the second minute. Crown came out in attack mode and some sloppy passing from Minnesota Morris led to a turnover. Ashley Pierce squared the ball from the left wing and Ellie Schanbacher found a corner to put the visitors ahead.
The Cougars grew into the match from there and had four of their first five shots of the match end up on goal, with saves required on efforts from
Kayla Nelson,
Bella Toth,
Jadyn Sondrol, and
Kim Peters. Slightly against the run of play, Crown doubled its lead on a goal from Pierce in the 32nd minute before
Maddie Schneider and Toth again had shots saved before the first-half whistle.
Minnesota Morris spent large chunks of the second half on the ball, especially in the opening 20 minutes. However, each of their shots over that span were off target, leaving the score 2-0. When
Jay Kwateh was forced off injured for a short spell, the Polars took advantage with a deflected shot from Millie Hosmer that trickled in in the 70th minute before Domka scored at the back post on a corner kick in the 72nd minute for the final margin.
Toth led the Cougars with four shots (three on goal) in the match. Both Peters and Sondrol had three shots with one on goal.
Danielle Reinhard made four saves on the afternoon and
Chantel Peralta added one.
Minnesota Morris makes the trek to Northland College on Saturday to face the LumberJills at 1 p.m.
