OWATONNA, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team took a 5-4 victory over Buena Vista University on Sunday to open up the 2023 season.
Buena Vista was unable to fill three singles spots and two doubles matches, giving Minnesota Morris an automatic five points. In the No. 1 doubles match,
Matt Gearou and
Marshall O'Meara dropped an 8-4 decision to BVU's Dalton Pregon and Brock Bruns.
The Beavers took all three singles matches to round out the scoring on the day. Pregon defeated Gearou, 6-1, 6-1, in the No. 1 match. Bruns notched a 6-2, 6-2 win over
Carver Hammond at No. 3. Ryan Webb was able to close out O'Meara, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 4 singles.
Minnesota Morris will continue non-conference play on Feb. 17 with a trip to South Sioux City, Neb. to face Morningside University at 2 p.m.
