FARGO, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team lost a pair of matches on Saturday, falling to Concordia College-Moorhead by a score of 8-1 before the University of Wisconsin-Superior notched a 9-0 victory later in the afternoon. The Cougars are now 1-3 (0-1 UMAC) on the season.
In the day's opening match, Concordia jumped out to a 3-0 lead after doubles play. The No. 2 pairing of
Marshall O'Meara and
Carver Hammond came the closest to nabbing a point for Minnesota Morris, coming up short in an 8-5 defeat. The Cobbers took five of the six singles matches to round out the match. The point scored by the Cougars was courtesy of Hammond at No. 4 singles with a 6-2, 2-6, 10-3 win over Matthew Nemer. O'Meara took his No. 3 singles match to a third-set tiebreak before coming up a few points short and
Will Marsan was competitive in a 4-6, 4-6 loss at No. 5 singles.
UW-Superior rolled to victory in the afternoon, winning two doubles matches, 8-0, and the No. 3 doubles match, 8-1. From there, three of the six singles victories for the Yellowjackets came by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Marsan had the best showing at No. 5 singles in a 2-6, 2-6 loss to Lorenzo Silva.
Minnesota Morris will go a month before competing again. The Cougars face UW-Superior on the road on March 25 at 1:30 p.m.
