UW-Superior Notches Narrow Win over Women’s Tennis

A 2-1 lead after doubles held up for the Yellowjackets in a 5-4 win on Saturday afternoon.

SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team suffered a 5-4 defeat to the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Saturday, returning to the court after a one-month layoff. The loss sinks the Cougars to 2-4 (1-1 UMAC) on the season.

The Yellowjackets made a 2-1 lead after doubles hold up, with the teams subsequently splitting six singles matches. UW-Superior posted an 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles and an 8-4 win at No. 2. The Cougar duo of Megan Arens and Marybeth Tautges secured a point with an 8-4 win at No. 3.

Minnesota Morris had singles victories in the Nos. 2, 3, and 4 matches, but it wasn't enough to overturn the deficit. Abby Burquest won at No. 2 singles, 6-4, 6-2. Allison Bruhn matched her with a 6-4, 6-2 victory at No. 3. In the No. 4 match, Valerie Gall had a 6-4, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (0) win over Brooke Wilfong. UW-Superior was able to hold on via wins at Nos. 1, 5, and 6, with Kiley Rodarmel, Arens, and Tautges all falling just short.

Barring any changes to the schedule due to weather, Minnesota Morris is next scheduled to face Crown College at 10 a.m. on April 2 in Waconia, Minn.
