Men’s Tennis Drops a 5-4 Decision to Crown

The Polars survived the elements this morning and eked out a one-point victory.

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's tennis team narrowly lost to Crown College on Wednesday morning by a score of 5-4, falling to 2-8 (1-6 UMAC) on the season.

The Polars took a 2-1 lead in doubles and that ended up playing a pivotal part of the result. The Crown No. 1 team had an 8-0 win and the No. 3 team added an 8-5 victory. Marshall O'Meara and Will Marsan won their No. 2 doubles match, 8-0.

From there, wins for Minnesota Morris at Nos. 3, 4, and 5 singles were offset by Crown wins at Nos. 1, 2, and 6. O'Meara had his second win of the morning with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout at No. 3 singles. Marsan also had an easy time with a 6-2, 6-0 victory at No. 4. At No. 5, Max Gmuender came back from a set down for 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 win.

The Polars won in straight sets at Nos. 1 and 6. At No. 2 singles, Carver Hammond tried to play through an injury, but he ultimately suffered a 6-1, 4-6, 3-6 loss.

Minnesota Morris is back in action on Saturday in St. Paul. The Cougars will face the University of Northwestern at 10 a.m. and then square off with St. Olaf College at 1 p.m.
