LAKEVILLE, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team lost to the University of Northwestern, 8-1, on Saturday in a match that moved indoors due to playing conditions. A non-conference match with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls was canceled. With two matches remaining in the regular season, the Cougars now stand at 6-6 (5-3 UMAC).
Northwestern quickly went ahead 3-0 in doubles play. The Eagles notched 8-3 wins at both No. 2 and No. 3. At No. 1 doubles, the Cougar duo of
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn battled but came up short, 6-8.
Rodarmel would go on to score the lone point of the afternoon for Minnesota Morris with a 7-6(6), 1-6, 10-6 win at No. 1 singles over Annie Orvis. The Cougars were close in other matches, but Northwestern was able to claim the remaining five points.
Abby Burquest lost at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 1-6. Bruhn took a 4-6, 3-6 loss at No. 3 singles.
Valerie Gall had an identical score at No. 4 singles where she lost, 4-6, 3-6.
Megan Arens went up a set at No. 5 singles but eventually lost by a score of 7-6(3), 1-6, 3-6. Finally,
Ava Weber was shut out at No. 6 singles, 0-6, 0-6.
Action continues tomorrow afternoon for Minnesota Morris with a trip to Bethany Lutheran College. The Cougars and Vikings will get underway in Mankato at 1:30 p.m.
