NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team held serve on Monday with a 6-3 victory at Martin Luther College. The win improves the Cougars to 8-6 (7-3 UMAC) on the season and moves the squad into a tie with the University of Wisconsin-Superior for second place in the North Division of the conference.
Minnesota Morris took a 2-1 lead after doubles play with 8-2 wins at Nos. 1 and 2.
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn took the No. 1 match, while
Abby Burquest and
Valerie Gall teamed for the victory at No. 2.
The Cougars finished the match off by winning the top four singles matches. Rodarmel took down McKenzey Crowley, 6-3, 6-3, at No. 1. Burquest won at No. 2 over Josephine Bieberitz, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. At No. 3, Gall was a 6-2, 6-4 winner over Sarah Hoffe.
Megan Arens posted a 6-4, 6-2 win over Charis Glende at No. 4.
Ava Weber (3-6, 6-7(4)) and
Marybeth Tautges (0-6, 6-7(4)) took losses at Nos. 5 and 6 singles.
On Tuesday afternoon, Minnesota Morris will host UW-Superior in a one-match playoff to determine the No. 2 seed in the North Division after both teams finished 7-3 in conference play and split matches head-to-head during the season. The University of Northwestern, Principia College, and Webster University have already clinched spots in the UMAC Tournament and the winner of tomorrow's match will round out the field. Action gets underway at 2:30 p.m.
