ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team led early on and then came from behind in the second half to earn a 2-2 draw at Crown College. The Cougars move to 0-5-2 (0-1-2 UMAC) on the season.
After two saves from
Danielle Reinhard in the first quarter of an hour and then two from the Crown goalkeeper shortly thereafter,
Maddie Schneider struck for Minnesota Morris in the 18th minute on a free kick from nearly 40 yards that hit the hands of Rachel Fuller and trickled through to stake the Cougars to a 1-0 lead.
Minnesota Morris maintained that lead for more than 20 minutes, but the Polars scored through Emma Domka in the 41st minute and Ashley Pierce in the 43rd minute to take a 2-1 lead into halftime.
In search of the equalizer, Minnesota Morris was able to clear the ball out of its final third and take advantage of Crown's forward numbers, counterattacking and having a shot from
Malia Totoris saved in the 72nd minute, only for the rebound to fall perfectly to
Kim Peters to tap home and tie the score at 2-2.
Reinhard made a number of saves in the final minutes of the match to maintain the tie and earn a point for the Cougars.
Totoris finished with three shots in the match, while
AJ LaFrinier added two.
Minnesota Morris comes back home to Cougar Field to face Northland College at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
