MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team started fast and posted a comfortable 6-0 victory over North Central University on Wednesday at Cougar Field. The win lifts the Cougars to 2-5-2 (2-1-2 UMAC) on the season.
Kim Peters found the back of the net twice in the opening eight minutes and made it a hat trick well before halftime. The first goal came off a rebound of a
Caroline O'Donnell shot in the sixth minute and she struck again in the eighth minute with assists from
Jadyn Sondrol and
Jay Kwateh in the build-up.
Minnesota Morris added onto its lead in the 20th minute on a North Central own goal after
AJ LaFrinier swung in a cross that hit the post and then rebounded off the Ram goalkeeper and in. Two minutes later, Peters had her hat trick as a
Danielle Reinhard goal kick was possessed by LaFrinier in the midfield and then fed ahead for the finish. Before the half was through,
Bella Toth added onto the lead and made it 5-0 with a shot from outside the box that was assisted by
Hailey Szabla.
Chantel Peralta played the final hour of the match and finished with six saves, most of which came in the second half. Peters finished off her four-goal performance in the 58th minute after a through ball from Sondrol left her one-on-one with the keeper.
Peters joins an elite list of Cougar players to register a four-goal game. Molly Hancuh was the last to accomplish the feat on Oct. 3, 2017 against Crown College. Jill Druley holds the single-game goals record with five, while Hancuh and now seven other individuals have scored four goals in a match a total of 11 times in program history.
LaFrinier and Toth led Minnesota Morris with six shots apiece in the match. Peters had five shots and
Kayla Nelson added four.
The Cougars will go on the road to face the University of Northwestern on Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
