MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team struggled to deal with the speed and creativity of Augsburg University on Saturday in a 10-0 non-conference loss.
Augsburg spent much of the first half on the attack and managed to score four times in the first 45 minutes despite nine saves from
Nick Isensee. Mitchel Munzing assisted on the opening goal in the eighth minute and then scored two himself before the halftime whistle. On the other side of the field, Augsburg's Oscar Herrera made a pair of fine saves to keep the Cougars from getting on the board, denying
Gavin Tarbox and
Carter Watkinson in quick succession.
A goal in the first minute of the second half was a tough introduction for Minnesota Morris'
Jay Clarksen in goal, coming on to spell Isensee. Augsburg added another in the 58th minute and then turned it up a notch in the home stretch, scoring four more times in the final 15 minutes.
Clarksen made two saves in his 45 minutes in goal. Watkinson had a pair of shots, with one nearly getting past the outstretched hand of Herrera.
Minnesota Morris will move into UMAC play on Wednesday afternoon with a 2 p.m. match at Martin Luther College in New Ulm.
