Four Touchdown Game From the Cougars Ends in 27-6 Victory

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris Football team traveled to take on Crown College in St. Bonifacius. The Cougars came away from the day with a 27-6 victory, moving to 2-3 in UMAC play on the season.

The first quarter of this matchup was scoreless for both teams, with the defenses keeping the offenses at bay. The Polar defense ended the Cougars' scoring campaign on the opening drive, forcing a turnover of possession at the Crown 35 yard line. Minnesota Morris' defense returned the favor, stopping Crown short at their own 30 yard line and forcing a punt on the second drive of the game. Both teams' defenses continued to put a stop to the scoring attempts, and the first quarter came to an end with Crown College in possession.

Continuing their drive from the first quarter, the Polars took the ball all the way to the endzone to open the scoring for the game. The 2-point conversion was unsuccessful for the home team, and the Cougars regained possession with 13:32 on the clock. In a twelve play drive that took seven minutes off the clock, Minnesota Morris answered right back with a touchdown of their own. Boss rushed twice for the Cougars in the red zone to go from the 2-yard line to the endzone. Logan Ahlers launched a kick through the uprights to give the Cougars a 7-6 lead. Shutting down the Polars in four plays and recovering a muffed punt, the Cougars quickly put together their second scoring drive of the game. Drake rushed into the endzone from the 1-yard line to find his first touchdown of the game. Both teams battled to regain possession of the ball but were unable to score, resulting in a 14-6 Minnesota Morris lead heading into halftime.

Drake found the endzone for the second time early in the third quarter, rushing 81 yards in the second drive of the half to put the Cougars up 20-6. The Cougar defense forced a punt in the following drive, allowing the offense to regain possession at the UMM 32-yard line. Minnesota Morris made quick work of scoring their fourth touchdown of the game in the next drive, shaving four minutes off the clock while in possession. The Cougars moved from their own 32-yard line to Crown's 13-yard line in six plays, setting Boss up for a 13-yard rush to the endzone for his second touchdown of the day. Crown responded with pressure on offense, getting as close as Morris' 6-yard line before they were brought up short by the Cougar defense. The third quarter wrapped up with Minnesota Morris leading the Polars 27-6.

In a scrappy fourth quarter, neither team was able to find the endzone to advance the scores. JT Cook and Nick Brandner intercepted passes in Crown's first and second drives of the quarter, allowing Minnesota Morris to dominate possession of the football in the quarter. The Cougar offense was able to get as close as Crown's 10-yard line late in the fourth, before a fumble returned possession to the Polars with 1:07 on the clock. The Cougars drew Crown up short at their own 22-yard line but 00:23 on the clock was not enough for Minnesota Morris to score one last time. The final horn blew with the scoreboard showing a score of 27-6 in favor of the Cougars.

Drake led the Cougars in passing and rushing on the day, with 163 and 160 yards respectively in addition to two touchdowns. Boss rushed for a total of 74 yards, also scoring two touchdowns for Minnesota Morris. Jacob Miranda hauled in three passes for 46 receiving yards.
