OMAHA, Neb. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team suffered a 6-1 defeat to the College of Saint Mary as non-conference play continued on Saturday night.
The Flames took a 1-0 lead with three close doubles victories.
Allison Bruhn and
Kiley Rodarmel lost in the No. 1 match, 4-6. The other two matches were 3-6 defeats for the Cougars, with
Valerie Gall and
Marybeth Tautges falling at No. 2 and
Mariah Mireles and
Kristen Muller dropping the No. 3 match.
Though many of the singles matches were close, Minnesota Morris only took one of the six. Muller was a set ahead at No. 5 singles with a 6-2 win in the first set when her opponent retired. The other two matches that nearly went the way of the Cougars were at No. 2 where Gall battled to a 6-7 (4), 3-6 defeat and at No. 4 where Tautges finished down a break in each set at 4-6, 4-6.
The rest of the lineup featured Rodarmel at No. 1 (0-6, 0-6), Bruhn at No. 3 (1-6, 2-6), and
Ava Weber at No. 6 (1-6, 3-6).
Minnesota Morris wraps up its trip to Nebraska with an 11 a.m. match in Fremont against Midland University on Sunday morning.
