SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team suffered a second loss of the young 2024 season to a non-NCAA Division III foe, falling to Northwestern College (Iowa), 9-0, on Friday afternoon.
The Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead in doubles, handling the Nos. 1 and 3 matches easily.
Allison Bruhn and
Kiley Rodarmel took an 8-1 loss at No. 1 and the pairing of
Mariah Mireles and
Ava Weber were defeated, 8-2, at No. 3. In the No. 2 match,
Valerie Gall and
Marybeth Tautges put up a fight before falling short, 8-6.
In singles play, Northwestern took care of all six matches in straight sets. Tautges won the most games for Minnesota Morris in a 2-6, 2-6 loss at No. 5. Both Gall (No. 2) and Bruhn (No. 3) were downed by scores of 1-6, 2-6, while
Kristen Muller fell at No. 4, 2-6, 1-6. In the No. 1 match, Rodarmel took a 0-6, 1-6 defeat.
Jhazlyn Wynne was held at love in her No. 6 match.
Minnesota Morris makes the trip to Yankton, S.D. on Sunday to face Mount Marty University at 3 p.m.
