FARGO, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team fell to Saint Mary's University, 8-1, in non-conference play on Saturday afternoon.
The Cougars were competitive in doubles play, but the Cardinals managed to take all three points.
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn fell in the No. 1 match, 8-4. At No. 2,
Valerie Gall and
Marybeth Tautges were downed, 8-3.
Mariah Mireles and
Kristen Muller were defeated at No. 3 doubles, 8-1.
Two of the six singles matches on Saturday required a third-set tiebreaker. In the No. 1 match, Rodarmel came up just short against Natalie Peterson, dropping a 6-2, 2-6, 7-10 decision. Gall was able to record a point for Minnesota Morris with a 7-5, 2-6, 13-11 victory over Emily Henderson at No. 2.
The other matches were straight-forward victories for Saint Mary's to close out the win. Bruhn (No. 3) and
Ava Weber (No. 6) each lost 2-6, 1-6 matches. Tautges fell at No. 4, 1-6, 1-6. Finally, Muller lost at No. 5 singles, 1-6, 2-6.
As non-conference action begins to wind down for the year, the Cougars travel to Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa on March 23 and will face Iowa Central Community College at 11 a.m. before squaring off with the Beavers at 2 p.m.
