ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team played its first NCAA Division III opponent of the season on Friday night, but were unable to come up with the team's first win of the season in a 9-0 loss at St. Catherine University.
In doubles play, the Wildcats zoomed out to a 3-0 lead with 8-0 wins at Nos. 1 and 3, and an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.
In singles play, only
Valerie Gall in the No. 2 match was able to take a set off of a St. Catherine player. Gall ended her match with a 7-6(4), 4-6, 5-10 defeat to Anna Luksik.
In other singles play,
Kiley Rodarmel (No. 1) and
Kristen Muller (No. 5) lost by scores of 0-6, 0-6 to Kelsey Dorr and Liliana Holmberg, respectively. St. Kate's also posted 6-1, 6-1 wins at Nos. 4 and 6 singles against
Marybeth Tautges and
Ava Weber. In the No. 3 singles match,
Allison Bruhn played Faith Simon close, but finished with a 3-6, 4-6 loss.
Minnesota Morris continues non-conference play next weekend in Fargo, N.D., taking on Saint Mary's University in a neutral-site match on March 16.
