NEW ULM, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team suffered a tough 5-4 loss to Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon, sinking to 2-9 (1-1 UMAC) on the year.
Doubles play ended up making a huge difference in the match as Martin Luther was able to secure a 2-1 lead. The Knights posted an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles and an 8-1 victory at No. 3. The lone point for Minnesota Morris in the three matches came from the No. 1 pairing of
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn as the two earned an 8-7(4) victory.
The Knights were able to hold on and get the win by splitting the six singles matches with the Cougars. Minnesota Morris had wins at Nos. 2, 3, and 5.
Valerie Gall picked up a point at No. 2 with a 6-4, 6-4 win. In the No. 3 match, Bruhn made it a 2-for-2 day by winning, 6-3, 6-2.
Marybeth Tautges held on at No. 5 for a 7-5, 6-4 triumph.
Martin Luther took the matches at Nos. 1, 4, and 6. The tightest of those three came at No. 1 where Rodarmel was dealt a 6-7(4), 3-6 loss. Kristin Muller and
Ava Weber were defeated in the final two singles matches.
Minnesota Morris will make its home debut on Tuesday afternoon, hosting Bethany Lutheran College at 2 p.m. at the Morris Tennis Courts.
