SARTELL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team shook off their close loss over the weekend to post an impressive 7-2 victory over Bethany Lutheran College on Tuesday. The Cougars improve to 3-9 (2-1 UMAC North) with the win over the Vikings.
A great start to the match put Minnesota Morris in a winning position right from the start. All three doubles teams posted 8-2 victories, with the win at No. 1 going to
Kiley Rodarmel and
Allison Bruhn, the win at No. 2 going to
Valerie Gall and
Marybeth Tautges, and the win at No. 3 going to
Mariah Mireles and
Ava Weber.
The Cougars clinched the victory by winning four of the six singles matches. The two points for Bethany Lutheran came at Nos. 1 and 2, with Sailor Mohlenbrock defeating Rodarmel at No. 1, 6-4, 6-2, and Emily Yehle downing Gall at No. 2, 6-4, 7-6(4). Despite those two defeats, Minnesota Morris won the remaining matches, starting with a 6-0, 6-3 win for Bruhn at No. 3.
Katharine Kelm and Tautges had identical 6-3, 6-1 score lines at Nos. 4 and 5. In the No. 6 match, Weber breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph.
Minnesota Morris is next in action on April 25, hosting the University of Northwestern at 3:30 p.m.
