MORRIS, Minn. – Long-time University of Minnesota Morris head men's soccer coach
Scott Turnbull has announced his resignation, effective May 19. Turnbull has accepted a position with Morris Area High School and will be the school's new Athletic Director.
A star placekicker on the Minnesota Morris football team in the 1990s, Turnbull grew up playing soccer in his native Manitoba and began his coaching career with the newly founded women's soccer program at UMN Morris in 1998 and 1999. Returning to the Cougars in 2007, Turnbull was an assistant coach with the men's program in just their second year of existence and stayed in that role for three seasons. Minnesota Morris would win UMAC titles in 2007 and 2008 with Turnbull on staff and he was then handed the reins as head coach of the program in 2010.
In his 14 seasons at the helm of the men's soccer team, Turnbull posted six seasons with 10 or more wins and led Minnesota Morris to its first NCAA Tournament by winning the 2011 UMAC Tournament. He leaves the Cougars with an overall record of 101-138-32.
A national search for the next head coach of Cougar men's soccer is underway.
