Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Notches Second UMAC Win

ASHLAND, Wis. - The University of Minnesota Morris men's basketball team dominated their matchup with Northland College from start to finish. With 18 points off turnovers and 11 fast break points while shooting 60.9% from beyond the arc, the Cougars stretched the floor and dared the Lumberjacks to match their aggressive play.

The lead came early for Minnesota Morris in the first half as Carvin Fish remained unopposed on the post and Dom Aguilar knocked down back-to-back triples to take an 8-4 lead. Pal Dak continued to lengthen the scoring gap with a layup and a three from to make it 13-6. With five minutes left in the first half of the game, the Cougars held onto 38-28 lead. Northland battled to close the gap before the end of the half and, trailing by 12 with 22 seconds left, called a timeout to draw up one last three point play. Dak spoiled any chance of that with a decisive block out at the arc, and Minnesota Morris led 51-39 at the halftime buzzer.

Aguilar came out in the second half ready to put the game away as he dropped the first seven points for the Cougars to create a 14 point gap. Minnesota Morris kept things rolling on both ends of the court, forcing missed shots on defense and creating shots for themselves on the offensive end of the court. Still down 15 with 10 minutes left in the half, the Lumberjacks made their campaign for the lead and cut the gap to 66-76 with 6:14 left in the contest. Unwilling to give up their lead the Cougars, led by Fish in the paint, went on a 15-7 run to close out the second half and solidify their second straight conference victory.

Aguilar shot an impressive 6-8 (75%) from beyond the arc for the Cougars while dropping a team-high 22 points on the game. He added four assists and two steals to his stat line on the day. Fish scored 17 points and nabbed a team-high of eight rebounds for Minnesota Morris. Dak added 16 points of his own to the Cougar's final score. He also had five rebounds on the day.

The Cougars continue with UMAC action next Wednesday (Jan. 15) with a 5:30 pm matchup at North Central University.
