Cougars Extend Winning Streak to Four with 1-0 Victory Over Crown

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team defeated Crown College 1-0 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play on Wednesday afternoon in Morris, Minn. The win marks the Cougars' fourth consecutive victory—their longest winning streak since 2016.

Minnesota Morris improves to 5-8-2 overall and 4-3-1 in UMAC play, while Crown falls to 1-10-2 overall and 0-7-1 in the conference.

"Another solid performance from the team," said head coach Emma Morris. "To put four wins together is no easy feat, it is testament to the growth of this team and the commitment to continually work hard. Great goal from Bella Toth! Our back line was solid, Mady (Madysen Johnson) and Sarah Kumher in the middle did a great job."

It took just 24 seconds for the Cougars to record their first shot on goal, with Ashlynn Pollreisz testing the Crown goalkeeper early. In the fifth minute, CJ Frear-Boerner made her first save of the match. Talalupe Levale had a powerful strike from distance that narrowly missed the target, sailing just over the bar. The Cougars continued applying pressure, and in the 39th minute, they finally broke through. Pollreisz delivered a pass to Toth, who converted the shot to give Minnesota Morris a 1-0 lead. Levale added one more attempt before halftime, but the score remained 1-0 at the break.

Brianna Ganske registered the first shot on goal of the second half for UMM, which was deflected out for a corner. Later in the half, Johnson added another shot, but the lead held steady. The Cougar defense limited Crown's opportunities, and Frear-Boerner handled the few chances that came her way. Minnesota Morris created a few more chances late, but the match ended 1-0 in favor of the Cougars.

Toth scored her third goal of the season, while Pollreisz notched her team-leading fourth assist. The Cougars recorded 11 shots on goal, with Levale leading the team with four and Pollreisz contributing two. In goal, Frear-Boerner earned her fourth shutout of the season, making two saves.

The Cougars return to action on Tuesday when they travel to face Bethany Lutheran College for a 4:30 p.m. kickoff.
