Minnesota Morris Returns Home for UMAC Battle with Crown

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris football team returns to Big Cat Stadium as they host Crown College for an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) matchup on Saturday in Morris, Minn.

The Cougars are coming off a 27–20 defeat at Greenville University. The loss moved Minnesota Morris to 2–5 overall and 2–2 in the UMAC, placing them in a tie for third. In the game, Bryson Drake totaled 132 passing yards, 66 rushing yards, and one passing touchdown. Manny Guy led the team with 106 receiving yards. Defensively, Gregory Ohman and Derrick Dohmen recorded 12 and 11 tackles, respectively, while Juan "JT" Garza III added 96 return yards.
 
Drake has started every game this season at quarterback. The sophomore has tallied 621 passing yards, 252 rushing yards, and nine total touchdowns (six passing, three rushing). Sean-Keley Chinanga and Oscar Weah Jr. have led UMM's rushing attack with 414 and 311 yards, respectively. Carter Watnaas has recorded 256 receiving yards and three touchdowns, while Guy follows with 219 yards and two touchdowns.
 
On the defensive side, Ohman leads the team with 76 tackles, followed by Arian Saenz with 64 and Garza with 34. Chayce Meyer leads the squad in sacks with 6.5, pushing opposing offenses back 33 yards. Dylan Young and Ohman follow with 4.5 and 4 sacks, respectively. Minnesota Morris has forced 11 turnovers this season—six fumbles and five interceptions. Each interception has come from a different student-athlete, with Dino Villalobos recording the most recent. Villalobos and Brenton Overall have each forced two fumbles.
 
Crown College enters the week with a 4–3 overall record and a 3–1 mark in UMAC play. The Polars suffered their first conference loss last week, falling to the University of Northwestern, 24–16. Jamarrius Courtney finished with 137 passing yards, 87 rushing yards, one rushing touchdown, and four interceptions. Paul Bueno added an interception in the loss.
 
Courtney has totaled 574 passing yards and five touchdowns this season, but he has been most dangerous on the ground, leading the conference with 1,077 rushing yards and nine rushing touchdowns. His top target has been Jakari Hunnecook, who has 12 receptions for 129 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Defensively, Jakalyn Roy leads the Polars with 46 tackles, followed by Rudy Criner with 44 and Luke Johnson with 41. Crown has recorded 17 sacks, with Roy pacing the team with 5.5, resulting in 49 yards lost for opposing offenses. The Polars have tallied 12 takeaways—nine interceptions and three fumble recoveries. Eddie Hallowanger leads the team with four interceptions.
 
Earlier this season, the Cougars and Polars met in a nonconference matchup in St. Bonifacius, Minn., where Crown earned a 30–20 victory. Despite that loss, the Cougars lead the all-time series, 14–8.
