Cougars Look to Build Momentum in UMAC Play

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team will compete in both home and away matches this week in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play. The Cougars open the week on Tuesday at Crown College with a 7 p.m. kickoff, followed by a home game against Martin Luther College on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Last week, the Cougars went 1-1 in UMAC action. Minnesota Morris fell to the University of Northwestern, 3-0, but bounced back with a commanding 5-1 victory over North Central University. In the win, Rourke Nebel and Talalupe Levale each scored their first collegiate goals, while Bella Toth recorded her first goal of the season. Brianna Ganske added another goal and now leads the team in scoring. In goal, CJ Frear-Boerner made 16 saves across the two games.
 
Ganske now leads the Cougars with four goals on the season, followed by Hope Berscheit with three. Nebel has also scored multiple goals this year, with two. Ashlynn Pollreisz has assisted on three goals, ranking fourth in the UMAC. Frear-Boerner has started all 12 games in goal, making 89 saves and recording two shutouts.
 
Crown enters the week with a 1-7-2 overall record and a 0-4-1 mark in conference play. Last week, the Polars went 0-1-1, starting with a 2-2 draw against North Central before falling to Northwestern, 4-0. Layla Kerr leads the team with three goals, while Aubrey Makela and Ellie Schanbacker have each scored twice. Rachel Fuller has played every minute in goal this season, totaling 99 saves over 900 minutes.
 
Martin Luther is 6-4-1 overall and currently sits fourth in the UMAC standings with a 3-2 conference record. The Knights lost their only game last week, 6-0, to the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Anna Kramer leads the UMAC with seven goals, while teammates Priscilla Boehm and Naomi Foley are close behind, ranking second and third with six and five goals, respectively. In goal, Maria Vik has started all 11 games, making 61 saves.
