ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team saw its season come to an end in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals after falling to the University of Northwestern, 8–1, on Wednesday night in St. Paul, Minn.
The Cougars finish the season with a 5-12-3 overall record.
Talalupe Levale recorded the first chance for the Cougars with a long-distance shot. The Eagles opened the scoring in the 12th minute and did not look back, continuing their strong attack and capitalizing on multiple opportunities. UMM's best chance of the first half came in the closing minutes when
Malia Totoris sent a low, driven cross, but the Northwestern keeper pushed it out for a corner.
The Eagles added to their lead early in the second half with a goal in the 59th minute. The Cougar defense held Northwestern off the board again until the final two minutes. In the last minute, UMM was awarded a free kick.
Bella Toth sent the ball into the box, and
Ziviara Cordova scored for Minnesota Morris.
Cordova's goal marked the first of her collegiate career, wrapping up her debut season with the Cougars. She led the team in shots with two on goal, while Totoris and Levale also recorded shots on target. In goal,
CJ Frear-Boerner made five saves.
