Cougar Basketball Doubles up on UMAC Weekly Awards

MORRIS, Minn. - With a regular season champion still to be determined and most teams still in the running for the conference tournament, the University of Minnesota Morris men's and women's basketball teams have been competing with intensity across the UMAC. With their stand-out performances last week on the court Maddy Grove and Pal Dak have swept the UMAC Athlete of the Week Awards, the second week in a row for Grove. 

Grove is a sophomore guard from Morris, Minn. She led the Cougars to two crucial wins last week, averaging 25.5 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. She added on 3.5 assists per and 2.5 steals to aid the Minnesota Morris on both ends of the court. With her performance last week, Grove has jumped to the top of the scoring leaderboard in the UMAC with an average of 17 points per game. 

Dak, a senior guard hailing from Lincoln, Neb., tore up the court in the Cougars' vital win over Martin Luther on Saturday. His three-point play in the final seconds gave Minnesota Morris a one point edge over the Knights to secure victory. Dak averaged 27.5 points per game last week, adding on 5 rebounds, 2.5 steals, and 1 assists per game to help the Cougars split the weekend. He currently sits at fourth in the conference standings, averaging 18.9 points per game. 

The Cougars battle for a playoff berth on their home court this Wednesday (Feb. 18) against Bethany Lutheran College. The men's game is scheduled for a 5:30 tip-off, with the women's game to follow 25 minutes after the conclusion of the men's game.
