MANKATO, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris softball team opened their season with two games under the Bethany Lutheran College Dome. The Cougars fell to their two opponents, scoring just one run in 10 innings of play.
Saint Mary's University 25, Minnesota Morris 1
The Cougars struggled on both offense and defense in their first matchup of the day, struggling to stop Saint Mary's University from scoring while failing to put points of their own on the board. The lone run of the day for the Cougars came in the fourth inning from
Sierra Stevens, who crossed home plate on a
Kendra Schmitz RBI. Stevens and Schmitz were also the only Cougars with hits against Saint Mary's.
Luther College 11, Minnesota Morris 0
Facing off against a tough Division III opponent, the Cougars once again struggled to gain momentum in the first inning. Luther College established their lead in the third and fourth inning and made it difficult for Minnesota Morris to respond while allowing their momentum to carry them to a win.
Jillian Anderson had the lone hit of the game for the Cougars.
Minnesota Morris softball will continue their work in Mankato, Minn. on Feb. 23 with matchups against Hamline University (10:30 am) and Gustavus Adolphus College (3:30 pm).
