LAKEVILLE, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team defeated Buena Vista University in a commanding fashion, recording a final score of 6-1 on the day.
The Cougars went 2-1 in doubles play to take an early lead, winning the No. 1 match 6-1 and the No. 3 match 6-2 while falling 3-6 in the No. 2 match. Allison Bruh and
Minami Rikimaru made up the No. 1 pairing for Minnesota Morris,
Mariah Mireles and
Ava Weber were the No. 2 pairing, and
Marybeth Tautges and
Kristen Muller made up the No. 3 pairing.
Minnesota Morris continued to dominate in singles play where Bruhn (No. 1) dominated her match with scores of 6-3, 6-0. Rikimaru (No. 2) took her match in 6-1, 6-0 while Mireles (No. 4) dominated with scores of 6-2,6-2. Weber (No. 5) and Tautges (No. 6) took both their matches with scores of 6-0,6-0. Muller took her match to a tiebreaker, eventually falling with scores 6-2,1-6,3-10.
Women's tennis will head to St. Cloud State University on Feb. 27 for a 4:30 pm matchup against their Division II opponents.
