ST. PAUL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris falls 11-1 to fall against the University of Northwestern and lose the series 0-3. The Cougars move to 2-4 in conference play, and look to improve their overall record with a non-conference matchup against Concordia College - Moorhead Mar. 31.
The Eagles jumped out to a quick lead with six runs in the bottom of the first inning, followed by two more in the second inning. The lone run of the day for the Cougars came from
Anna Athey, as she crossed home on an RBI from Jill Anderson who reached on a fielder's choice. Northwestern added three more runs in the bottom of the third to keep things rolling, claiming their 11-1 lead and holding it through the fourth and fifth innings.
Olivia Losee and
Malena Mahoney earned the two hits for Minnesota Morris, with Losee's being a double to right center. Anderson aided the Cougar defense with five putouts from first base, while Johnson had two assists from shortstop.
Alyssa Thornton and
Morgan Wilhelm each pitched two innings on the day, totalling up seven flyouts and four groundouts for the defense.
