Women’s Tennis Takes Two Road Losses

RIVER FALLS, Wis. - Taking on both St. Olaf College and the University of Wisconsin - River Falls, the University of Minnesota Morris left the day suffering two shutouts against their non-conference opponents. The Cougars move to 3-9 on the season, and will face off against the University of Northwestern Apr. 22 in their final regular season match.

St. Olaf 7, Minnesota Morris 0

The Oles began their sweep with decisive doubles wins against the Cougars. The No. 1 pairing of Allison Bruhn and Valerie Gall fell 0-6 while the No. 2 pair of Marybeth Tautges and Minami Rikimaru took a 1-6 loss. Ava Weber and Mariah Mireles played the No. 3 match for the Cougars and took a 3-6 loss. 

Minnesota Morris struggled to stop St. Olaf in singles play as Gall (No. 1) and Bruhn (No. 2) took losses of 3-6, 1-6 and 1-6, 1-6 respectively. Mireles (No. 3) fell 0-6, 1-6 while Kristen Muller took a 2-6, 1-6 loss. Katherin Kelm played the No. 5 singles match and fell 2-6, 4-6 while Weber (No. 6) faced a 4-6, 1-6 defeat. 

UW-River Falls 7, Minnesota Morris 0

Despite taking one doubles match off the Falcons, the Cougars still faced a devastating sweep in their second match of the day. The No. 1 pairing of Bruhn and Gall were defeated 3-6 while the No. 3 pairing of Weber and Mireles fell 0-6. The lone win of the day came from the No. 2 pairing of Tautges and Rikimaru as they defeated their opponent in a 7-5 match. 

UW-River Falls kept the sweep going in singles play, taking down Gall (No. 1) in a 1-6, 3-6 match and Rikimaru (No. 2) 3-6, 2-6. The Nos. 3 and 4 Cougars, Mireles and Tautges, took 1-6, 2-6 and 0-6, 4-6 losses respectively. Finishing out the day, Weber (No. 5) fell 1-6, 5-7 while Kelm took a 1-6, 0-6 loss.
