SARTELL, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris women's tennis team opened up conference play with a matchup against Martin Luther College. The Cougars would fall 3-4, taking one doubles match and three singles matches.
The Knight's victory started with the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matches as they took the No. 1 match 6-4 and the No. 2 match 7-6. The Cougars clinched a 6-3 victory in the No. 3 doubles match.
Allison Bruhn and Valarie Gall made up the No. 1 pairing while
Minami Rikimaru and
Marybeth Tautges made up the No. 2 pairing.
Ava Weber and
Mariah Mireles played in the No. 3 spot for Minnesota Morris.
The Cougars were able to take three singles matches off the Knights, starting with Mireles at No. 2 who secured a 2-6,6-4,6-0 victory. Gall (No. 3) swept in a 6-1,6-4 win while
Kristen Muller earned a 6-4,7-6 victory in the No. 4 singles match. Bruh (No. 1) fell 0-6,4-6 while Weber (No. 5) and Tautges (No. 6) fell in matches of 4-6,2-6 and 1-6,6-7 respectively.
Women's Tennis will continue UMAC play with a match against Bethany Lutheran College on Apr. 9. The road match for the Cougars will start at 1 pm.
