MANKATO, Minn - The University of Minnesota Morris was quick to recover after a UMAC loss over the weekend with a commanding 5-2 victory over the Bethany Lutheran College Vikings. The Cougars would go 2-1 in doubles play and finish the day going 4-2 in singles play to secure the win.
The Cougars' victory started out with two victories in doubles play as the Nos. 1 and 3 pairs defeated their opponents 6-1. The No. 2 doubles pair fell 2-6 to record the first loss of the day. Allison Bruhn and Valerie Gall made up the No. 1 pair, while Kristen Muller and Marybeth Tautges were the No. 3 pair. Ava Weber and Mariah Mireles were the No. 2 pair for the Cougars.
Gall (No. 1) and Bruhn (No. 2) both fell in tie breaker sets to kick off singles play, losing 6-7, 6-2, 7-10 and 2-6, 6-1, 4-6 respectively. Mireles (No. 3) defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-4 while Muller (No. 4) took her opponent to three sets and secured the victory 6-7, 6-2, 10-8. Tautges and Weber played Nos. 5 and 6 for the Cougars and secured wins of 6-3, 6-4 and 6-0, 6-3 to wrap up the day.
Conference play continues for the Cougars as they take on Crown College for their first match at the Morris Tennis Courts. The Apr. 11 matchup is scheduled for an 11 am start.
