MANKATO, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris' season came to a close this afternoon in a 1-6 loss to Crown College. The Cougars totaled up seven hits on the day, but were only able to push one run across home plate.
Crown took up a quick one run lead before Tyler Moriarty got within scoring range in the bottom of the third inning to give the Cougars their first scoring opportunity. Unable to score, Minnesota Morris gave up two more runs in third to fall behind 3-0. Bradie Black was the next Cougar to reach scoring range, advancing to third base in the sixth. The first point on the board for Minnesota Morris came in the eighth inning when David Steffen launched a solo home run over the fence. With one inning left, the Cougars allowed two points for the Polars in the eighth to fall 1-6 as they were unable to make up any ground.
Steffen and Ethan Schmitz each had two hits to lead the Cougars at the plate, with Steffen adding on a stolen base in his trips around the bases. The pitching staff of Parker Gilchrist and Breckin Silvain collectively earned three strikeouts, 11 flyouts, and seven groundouts on the day.Â
