MORRIS, Minn. - The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team placed five student-athletes on the First Team All-Upper Midwest Athletic Conference and had two more earn places on the Honorable Mention Team. Breckin Silvain, Bradie Black, Trevor Haberman, Ben Meuser, and David Steffen took home First Team honors while Ethan Schmitz and Parker Gilchrist were named Honorable Mention.Â
Silvain, a junior pitcher from Omaha, Neb., pitched 31.2 innings on the season and finished with a 5.12 ERA. He gave up just 18 earned runs and pitched 36 strikeouts for the Cougars. He also contributed to three putouts for a 1.000 fielding percentage. Black, a junior infielder from Tucson, Ariz., appeared in 37 games and made 36 starts on the season. In his 143 at-bats he had 38 hits, three doubles, two home runs and 35 RBI's. He scored 38 runs on the season and collected 19 stolen bases while boasting an on-base percentage of .408. At shortstop for the Cougars, Black had 34 putouts and 98 assists for a fielding percentage of .917. Haberman, a sophomore, plays infield for Minnesota Morris and hails from Lakeville, Minn. He appeared in 26 games on the season and made 23 starts. With a batting average of .341, Haberman had 30 hits in 88 at-bats, launching five doubles and nine home runs into play while adding on 25 RBI's. He scored 32 runs on the season and picked up two stolen bases. In the field for the Cougars, he had 27 putouts and earned 21 assists for a fielding percentage of .923.Â
Meuser, a senior first baseman from Burnsville, Minn., appeared in 34 games and made 30 starts on the year. He appeared at the plate 125 times for the Cougars, earning 44 hits for a batting average of .352. He hit eight doubles, two triples, and six home runs into play while collecting 37 RBI's. Meuser holds an on-base percentage of .413 and collected five stolen bases. At first base, He was a part of 197 putouts and added on 13 assists for a field percentage of .991. The final Cougar to earn First Team All-UMAC honors is Steffen, a senior outfielder and pitcher from St. Cloud, Minn. Steffen appeared in 35 games and started 34. On the mound for Minnesota Morris, he pitched seven innings and earned four saves. He gave up just two earned runs and pitched eight strikeouts in 34 batters faced to boast an ERA of 2.57. At the dish, Steffen finished the season with a batting average of .342 as he totaled up 51 hits in 148 at-bats. He hit 10 doubles, two triples, and six home runs while collecting 42 RBI's. He scored 39 runs and collected 16 stolen bases. While playing center field for the Cougars, Steffen assisted in six outs and 62 putouts to hold a fielding percentage of .971.Â
Holding a place on the Honorable Mention team, Ethan Schmitz, a senior outfielder from St. Louis Park, Minn., was a staple in right field for the Cougars. He played in 35 games and made 29 starts. In his 109 at-bats, Schmitz collected 32 hits, three of which were doubles, one a triple, and two were home runs. He also picked up 24 RBI's for the Cougars. Around the bases, he collected 13 stolen bases and scored 32 runs on the season. Schmitz earned 57 putouts and three assists in the field to finish the season with a fielding percentage of .964. Gilchrist, a junior from Stillwater, Minn., is a pitcher for the Cougars. Going 4-4 over the season, he pitched 49.1 innings and started 10 games He pitched an impressive 39 strikeouts on the season and gave up 38 earned runs for an ERA of 6.93. He had five putouts and four assists for a fielding percentage of .900.
Ben Leal, a senior outfielder from Newton, Iowa, was named to the UMAC All-Sportsmanship Team for the 2025 season.Â
