The Cougars had a strong showing during the preseason. Head Coach
Emma Morris enters her second season at the helm, joined by new Assistant Coach
Colin Kaurich. Minnesota Morris added 11 first-year athletes and returns several UMAC All-Conference players, including
Bella Toth,
Johnette Nagbe, and
Fiona Chinavare.
CJ Frear-Boerner begins her junior season in goal. In the UMAC Preseason Coaches Poll, the Cougars were picked to finish fourth.
"We're excited to kick off our season against a very strong, regionally ranked opponent," said Head Coach Morris. "We know the pedigree that Coach Rizzo has built in their program, and this will be a great opportunity to test ourselves early and shake off any preseason jitters before conference play begins."
Last season, UMM finished sixth in the conference—just two points shy of fifth place. Nagbe and Toth led the team with 10 points each, each recording four goals and two assists. Frear-Boerner started seven games during her sophomore season and appeared in 10 overall, making 77 saves in goal.
Saint Mary's will also begin its 2025 campaign on Friday. The Cardinals are coming off a 14-3-4 overall record and a third-place finish in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC). Lauryn Skoruppa led SMU last season with 28 points, including 12 goals and four assists. Goalkeeper Anna Peckosh made 15 starts, recorded 54 saves, and finished with a 9-2-2 record.
Concordia will face Loras College before traveling to Morris. The Cobbers ended the 2024 season with an 8-7-1 record and a seventh-place finish in the MIAC. Kara Ellis led Concordia with 11 points from five goals and one assist. Goalie Anna Nelson made one appearance last season, making two saves.
