Dimitri Sofias takes over as the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach and Head Tennis Coach

Sofias joins Cougars Athletics ahead of the fall 2025 season

Morris, Minn. - Dimitri Sofias has been named the Assistant Coach of the Men's Soccer Team and Head Coach of the Women's Tennis Team at the University of Minnesota Morris, before the 2025 fall season.

"I am very excited to have Dimitri join our men's soccer and women's tennis programs," Director of Athletic Matt Johnson said about the hiring of Sofias. " His tremendous on-field coaching experience, along with a very strong background in video and media work will immediately impact our Cougar student-athletes.  I'm thankful to have him in the Cougar family."

Before joining Minnesota Morris, Sofias served as the assistant coach for the Laramie County Community College men's soccer team. During his time with the Golden Eagles, he was involved in recruiting, team instruction, and maintaining team statistics. His tenure included notable wins over the No. 1, No. 11, and No. 20 ranked teams in the NJCAA. In his final season, he helped guide the team to an overall record of 8-5-2 and a conference record of 5-3-1.

"I'm beyond excited to be here at Morris," stated coach Sofias. "The chance to join a great institution, embrace Matt's vision for the future of the athletics program, and coach while learning under a seasoned mentor like Blake made this decision an easy one."

Sofias played soccer collegiately at Laramie County CC, where he scored 10 goals and provided five assists over two seasons. In his sophomore year, he was named Region IX Honorable Mention. He also brings 12 years of video production experience, which he hopes to use to support and enhance the programs. His goal is to showcase the teams' hard work and successes in a way that inspires both players and the community.
