MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team earned a hard-fought 0-0 draw against Concordia College (Minn.) on Monday evening at Cougar Field.
Â
Following the match, the Cougars move to 0-1-1 on the season, while the Cobbers start at 0-0-1.
Â
"This was an incredibly well-earned tie today in a game that could have gone either way," said head coach
Emma Morris. "The whole team worked so hard, and the bench gave us a 12
th player with their enthusiasm and cheering. Special recognition to the back line;
Jhazlyn Wynne, and
Sarah Kumher really held the center while
Rylie Lovec and
Caitlin Lau were up and down the line making key plays both offensive and defensive which is not easy to do. Overall, our player of the game has to be
CJ Frear-Boerner, who made some big time saves in key moments."
Â
Concordia had the first shots of the game, which
CJ Frear-Boerner pushed out for a corner. On the other end of the pitch,
Bella Toth fired the first Cougar shot on frame. With less than 15 minutes remaining in the first half,
Abigail Oxborough was taken down just outside the box. Toth took the free kick and pushed it just wide. The first half ended with Concordia totaling seven shots on target, while UMM had two.
Â
Frear-Boerner was tested early in the second half, making a save just two minutes in. She stood tall throughout, keeping the game scoreless despite facing 11 shots on target. Most of UMM's offense flowed through
Johnette Nagbe and her speed. The junior broke through the back line several times but was unable to convert. In the final 20 minutes, a Cobber attacker found herself one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but
Sarah Kumher committed a tactical foul to stop the opportunity. She was issued a yellow card for the play. The Cougars made a final push in the closing moments, but were unable to generate a clear scoring chance, resulting in a 0-0 draw.
Â
The Cougar offense was led by Toth and Nagbe, who each recorded four shots. Toth led the team in shots on goal with two, while Nagbe had the other. Four Cougars played the full 90 minutes in the field: Lovec, Toth, Kumher, and
Ashlynn Pollreisz.
Talalupe Levale made her Cougar debut. In net, Frear-Boerner recorded 11 saves for her first clean sheet of the season.

Minnesota Morris wraps up its homestand on Wednesday when it hosts Martin Luther College in a non-conference match at 4:30 p.m. at Cougar Field.
