MORRIS, Minn. – After trailing 2-0 in the first half, the University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team battled back to earn a 3-3 draw against Concordia College (Minn.) on Wednesday evening in Morris, Minn.
Â
The Cougars are now 1-3-1 on the season, while the Cobbers move to 0-2-3.
Â
"The boys showed some grit and determination today going down twice and coming back from it," said head coach
Blake Ordell. "These non-conference games are for us to learn from and to fix the mistakes where we conceded goals. I am excited about how we moved the ball for 70 minutes and saw a huge change in speed of play from the past weekend."
Â
Theo Bubser had the first shot of the game in the second minute, but the Cobber goalkeeper made the save to keep it scoreless. Concordia held strong possession early on, resulting in a goal at the 14:14 mark. The Cougars then began stringing passes together and gaining control of possession.
Aaron Mackall and
Jake Anargyros both had shots on target, but the Cobbers struck again to take a 2-0 lead into halftime.
Â
Minnesota Morris responded quickly in the second half. Just 84 seconds in, Mackall followed up his own shot to score and cut the deficit to 2-1. Fifteen minutes later,
Whitaker Root sent a long ball that Mackall chased down and buried to level the score at 2-2.
Â
The Cougars kept the pressure on, with Bubser hitting the crossbar on a powerful shot. In the final 10 minutes, the Cobbers regained the lead, but less than two minutes later, the Cougars earned a free kick. After a scramble in the box, the ball found the foot of Anargyros, who slotted it home to tie the game at 3-3.
Â
Mackall nearly completed the hat trick in the closing seconds with a free kick, but the Cobber goalkeeper made the save to preserve the draw.
Â
Mackall recorded his third two-goal game of the 2025 season, while Anargyros netted his second goal of the year. Root picked up his first point of the season with an assist. UMM totaled nine shots on target, led by Mackall with five and Anargyros with two. In goal,
