Men’s Soccer Opens UMAC Play by Hosting Bethany Lutheran

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team kicks off Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) action by hosting Bethany Lutheran College at 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

Last week, the Cougars hosted Concordia College (Minn.). Minnesota Morris trailed 2-0 at halftime, but within the first 15 minutes of the second half, Aaron Mackall scored twice to level the game. After a late goal from the Cobbers put them ahead once more, Jake Anargyros equalized just one minute and 10 seconds later, resulting in a 3-3 draw. Goalkeeper Nick Isensee made eight saves in the tie.
 
To end the week, UMM traveled to the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Mackall found the back of the net again, securing a 1-0 victory. Isensee recorded his second shutout of the season, making 10 saves. For their performances, both Mackall and Isensee were named UMAC Athletes of the Week.
 
Heading into conference play, the Cougars hold the best record in the UMAC at 2-2-1. Mackall leads the conference with seven goals (five more than the next closest player) and also has a UMAC-leading two game-winning goals. Anargyros has tallied seven points from two goals and three assists, ranking first in the conference in assists. Also scoring this season are Theo Bubser and Justin Page. In goal, Isensee has recorded 36 saves and leads the UMAC with two shutouts.
 
In the UMAC Preseason Coaches Poll, Bethany Lutheran was picked to finish second. So far this season, the Vikings hold a 0-4-2 record. Last week, BLC played three matches: a 2-2 draw against Bethel University, a 3-3 tie with the University of Dubuque, and a 3-0 loss to Loras College. Goncalo Nolasco leads the Vikings with two goals and one assist. In net, Daniel Hughes and Brady Price have split time, each starting three games.
