Men’s Soccer Enters Second Half of Season by Hosting Northwestern and North Central

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team will host the University of Northwestern and North Central University to kick off the second half of the 2025 season. The Cougars continue Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play with a game on Wednesday against UNW at 2 p.m., followed by a Saturday matchup against NCU at 12 p.m.

Last week, Minnesota Morris went 1-1 in conference play. The Cougars traveled to Martin Luther College on Tuesday, earning a dominant 8-0 victory. It took just 11 seconds for UMM to get on the board with a goal from Guillaume Hensgens—his first collegiate goal. Aaron Mackall set a program record with four goals in the match. The Cougars then fell to the University of Wisconsin-Superior. Mackall scored his fifth goal of the week, earning UMAC Offensive Player of the Week honors for the fourth time this season.
 
Mackall currently ranks second in NCAA Division III with 12 goals this season. He also leads the UMAC in shots on goal with 21, averaging 2.33 per game. Jake Anargyros follows with three goals and a conference-leading five assists. Brett Bartkowicz, Whitaker Root, and Hensgens all scored their first goals of the year last week. Justin Page and Theo Bubser have also found the net this season. Senior goalkeeper Nick Isensee has started all nine games for the Cougars, recording 59 saves and leads the UMAC with three shutouts.
 
Northwestern holds a 3-4 overall record and is 1-2 in UMAC play. Last week, the Eagles fell 9-1 to UW-Superior before bouncing back with a 9-0 win over Martin Luther. Jared Mojardin and Simeon Friesen lead the team with four goals each, both scoring in their most recent game. In goal, Hayden DeAnnuntis has started all seven matches, tallying 21 saves. Since 2006, the all-time series between the Cougars and Eagles is tied at 16-16-6, though UNW has had recent success, going 6-1-3 in the last 10 matchups.
 
North Central enters the week with a 2-7 overall record and is 1-2 in conference play. The Rams were shut out in both games last week, falling 5-0 to St. Mary's University and 6-0 to Bethany Lutheran College. NCU has scored six goals this season, with Christian Longo-Schumer leading the team with two. Derick Stevens has started six games in goal, recording 21 saves. The Cougars lead the all-time series 16-6-1 and won the most recent meeting 3-1.
