Cougars Host Northwestern and North Central for Homecoming Week

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team will host the University of Northwestern and North Central University during Homecoming Week. The Cougars will face UNW first on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m., followed by a Saturday matchup against NCU at 2:30 p.m. Both are Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) games.

Last week, the Cougars dropped both of their UMAC contests, falling to Martin Luther College and the University of Wisconsin-Superior. However, they found the net in both matches. Hope Berscheit scored against MLC, while Johnette Nagbe netted her first goal of the season at UWS. Ashlynn Pollreisz earned her first collegiate point with an assist on Berscheit's goal. Over the two games, goalkeeper CJ Frear-Boerner recorded 14 saves.
 
Minnesota Morris scored seven goals this season, with Berscheit and Brianna Ganske leading the team with three goals each. Nagbe has added the other tally. Emma Buzinec, Abigail Oxborough, and Pollreisz each have one assist on the season. In goal, Frear-Boerner has started all 10 games for UMM and ranks second in the UMAC with 73 saves.
 
Northwestern enters the week with a 2-4-2 overall record and a 1-1-1 mark in UMAC play. Last week, the Eagles drew 1-1 with UW-Superior and defeated Martin Luther 3-1. Haley Mersberger ranks second in the conference with six goals, including two in her most recent outing. Marie Kendall follows with two goals and two assists. In net, Sam Hansen has played all 720 minutes this season and has made 43 saves.
 
North Central comes in with a 1-6 overall record and an 0-3 record in conference play. The Rams are on a five-game losing streak, most recently falling 7-0 to Bethany Lutheran College. NCU has scored five goals this season, each by a different player. Olivia Beach scored the Rams' most recent goal. Goalkeeper Emma Ramirez has played every minute in net, leading the UMAC with 91 saves.
