MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team was narrowly defeated, 4-3, by NCAA Division II opponent the University of Jamestown on a rainy Thursday afternoon in Morris, Minn.

The Jimmies improve to 1-0 on the season, while the Cougars fall to 1-1.

It didn't take long for the scoring to begin. Just 1 minute and 25 seconds in,
Jake Anargyros broke through the back line, slipped past the keeper, and slotted in the opening goal. Fifteen minutes into the match,
Nick Isensee made his first save of the season and went on to keep the Jimmies out during the next stretch of play. Anargyros later sent a deep ball to
Aaron Mackall, who found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Mackall made a move to get past him and extended the Cougars' lead to 2-0.

Four minutes later, the Jimmies cut the deficit to one, and with five minutes remaining in the first half, they leveled the score at 2-2.

After two shots in the first 10 minutes of the second half, Minnesota Morris earned a free kick around the center line.
Cade Simonson delivered a ball that Mackall volleyed into the net to put the Cougars back in front, 3-2. However, Jamestown applied sustained pressure in the Cougar half and tied the game at 3-3 with 24 minutes remaining.

In the final 10 minutes, the Jimmies scored the go-ahead goal. Minnesota Morris earned a free kick just outside the box in the final minutes, but Anargyros sent the shot over the bar. Jamestown held on to secure the 4-3 victory.

Mackall had his second game in a row with two goal, while Anargyros scored his first collegiate goal. Simonson and Anargyros also recorded an assist. The Jimmies outshot the Cougars 16-4. Isensee played a crucial role in keeping the game close, making 12 saves in the loss. Mackall and Anargyros each recorded two shots on target.
Burke Sheppard and
Ibrahim Aldachach also tallied shots, though neither was on frame.

The Cougars will hit the road for the first time this season as they travel to Storm Lake, Iowa, for a 3:30 p.m. kickoff against Buena Vista University.
