Volleyball Continues Tournament Play at the Augsburg Tournament

MORRIS, Minn. –  The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team will compete in its second tournament of the season on Friday at the Augsburg Tournament. The one-day event will see the Cougars face Gustavus Adolphus College at 2:30 p.m. and Augsburg University at 7:30 p.m.

Last week, the Cougars opened the season at the College of St. Benedict Tournament. After the two-day event, UMM finished with a 1-2 record, earning a straight-sets victory over Luther College. Anna Molstad and Ella Johnson led the team with seven kills each, followed by Tori Scheler with five. The Cougars found success at the service line, recording 18 aces. Braxtyn Meyer and Payton Merth tallied five and four aces, respectively.
 
Johnson, in her sophomore season, leads the Cougars with 25 kills, followed by Molstad with 21. Clara Holden and Allison Dornseif have paced the offense with 39 assists each. The Cougars currently lead the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) in service aces, with 27 (2.70 per set). Meyer and Holden lead the team in that category with seven and six aces, respectively.
 
Defensively, Lexi Coon has a team-high 49 digs, which also leads the UMAC. At the net, Scheler ranks third in the conference with nine blocks.
 
Gustavus Adolphus opened its season at the Puget Sound Premiere and finished with a 2-1 record. The Gusties picked up wins over the University of Puget Sound (3-0) and Pacific Lutheran University (3-1), but fell to Southwestern University (3-2). Head Coach Jacob Voss is in his first season with the program. Seniors Sydney Timm and Leah Berg lead the offense with 34 and 33 kills, respectively. Maren Sundberg has a team-high 59 digs, while Sophia Deyak has recorded 10 blocks.
 
Augsburg began the season with a three-match losing streak but bounced back with a straight-sets win over Bethany Lutheran College. Jay Kam, in his first season, is the 12th head coach in program history. The offense is led by sophomore Ava Carlson with 61 kills (4.50 per set). Jovial King has totaled 144 assists, while Maggie Lile leads the team defensively with 52 digs.
