Cougars Look to Build on Two Straight UMAC Wins

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team hosts Crown College on Tuesday for Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play at 4:30 p.m. The Cougars then start the second half of conference play at Martin Luther College on Saturday with a 1 p.m. kickoff.

Minnesota Morris won both games last week to move into third place in the UMAC standings. The Cougars started the week at the University of Northwestern with a 3-1 victory, followed with a 3-0 win against North Central University. In the game at UNW, Charlie Adams scored his first collegiate goal, while Angel "Bam" Perez Leon and Luis Mendez also found the back of the net. In the following game, Adams opened the scoring, with Mendez following shortly after. Cade Simonson netted the final goal in the shutout victory.
 
After last week, Mendez now leads the team in points (9), goals (3), and assists (3). Jake Anargyros, Adams, and Perez Leon all follow with two points on the season. Also scoring this season have been Patrick Bednarczyk, Karson Busch, and Simonson. Six student-athletes are sitting on one point with an assist. Dutch Bullock has started all 10 games for the Cougars and has made 47 saves.
 
Crown enters with a 3-4-2 record and is 2-2-1 in the UMAC. Last week, the Polars went 2-0, defeating North Central University 3-2 and Northwestern 2-0. Alex Hosler is in his third season as the head coach of Crown. Ashton Hosler is the team's leading scorer with five goals, and Logan Jacobson has started eight games in goal, making 50 saves.
 
Martin Luther holds a 2-6-3 overall record and is 1-2-2 in the conference. The Knights went 0-2 last week, falling to the University of Wisconsin-Superior 11-0 and the University of Wisconsin-Stout 6-1. Head coach Nicolas Schmoller is in his fifth season with the team. Silas Gawrisch, Gabriel Habeck, and Jin Lee lead the team in scoring with two goals each. Nicholas Russ has started all 11 games in net with 99 saves. In the first meeting between the teams, they drew 1-1, with Mendez scoring the goal for UMM.
