McElroy Scores 20 Seconds into the Second Half for 1-1 Draw with Crown

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team drew 1-1 with Crown College in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference play Tuesday afternoon in Morris, Minn. Katelin McElroy scored the game-tying goal 20 seconds into the second half.

Minnesota Morris had a great look on goal early after Malia Totoris sent a through ball to Brianna Ganske, but her shot was saved by the keeper in the third minute. Ganske had another attempt at goal in the 14th minute but was turned away again. CJ Frear-Boerner was called into action, making her first save in the 21st minute. The Polars took the lead in the 35th minute. Before the half was over, Ganske had another shot on goal, but the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.

It did not take long for the Cougars to level the game. Off the kickoff, the Cougars stole the ball. Rourke Nebel sent the ball to the corner to Totoris, who crossed the ball into the box, finding McElroy, who sent the ball into the back of the net 20 seconds into the second half. Neither team got great looks on goal for the rest of the game, with Frear-Boerner making two saves in the second half. Ashlynn Pollreisz, Madysen Johnson, and Ganske all had shots for UMM. The game remained tied after 90 minutes, giving both teams a point in the conference standings.

McElroy scored her first goal of the season and the second of her career. Nebel assisted on her second goal of the season, and Totoris recorded her first assist. The Cougars totaled seven shots with five on target. Ganske led the team with four shots on goal. Frear-Boerner kept the Cougars in the game, making eight saves.

The Cougars travel to New Ulm, Minn., to start the second half of conference play against Martin Luther College on Saturday with a 3:30 p.m. kickoff.
