MANKATO, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris men's soccer team fell to Bethany Lutheran College, 2-0, in the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament Semifinals on Wednesday evening in Mankato, Minn.
The first goal of the game came in the opening minute. A handball in the box by Minnesota Morris resulted in a penalty kick for BLC, which the Vikings converted to take a 1-0 lead. The game began to slow down after the opening goal.
Dutch Bullock kept the deficit at 1-0, making four saves in the first half.
Charlie Adams had a shot for UMM, but it was blocked before reaching the net. In the final minutes of the half, the Vikings were issued a red card.
The Cougars got off to a quick start in the second half, with
Luis Mendez firing a shot just over the crossbar. The game then turned into a back-and-forth battle, with neither team generating many quality scoring opportunities. Shortly after entering the game,
Justin Page had a shot that went just wide. In the 79th minute, BLC was awarded another penalty kick and, just like the first, converted to extend its lead to 2-0.
Jean-Patrick Koko had a shot late in the game, but it was not enough as the Cougars fell by that score.
The Cougars totaled six shots in the contest, with all six coming from different student-athletes. Bullock finished with six saves in the game.
