Baseball Travels to BLC for Three-Game Series

MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team travels to Mankato, Minn., for a three-game Upper Midwest Athletic Conference series with Bethany Lutheran College. The series begins Saturday with a doubleheader scheduled for 1 p.m. and will wrap up on Sunday with a 1 p.m. first pitch.

The Cougars started conference play last week, going 2-1 against Crown College. Minnesota Morris swept the doubleheader, winning 9-6 and 10-4, but dropped the series finale, 13-10. In the series, Kellan Oligmueller hit his first collegiate home run. Ben Meuser had six hits, including a home run, with five RBIs. Johnny Lopez and Parker Gilchrist each earned a win on the mound, while Breckin Silvain recorded a pair of saves.
 
This season, Meuser leads the team, batting .412 with 21 hits, four doubles, two triples, and a home run. The senior first baseman also has a conference-leading 17 RBIs. Landen Meyerdirk and Bradie Black round out the top three in batting average at .353 and .308, respectively. Meyerdirk is the conference leader in stolen bases with 18.
 
On the mound, Travis Godfrey has a team-low ERA of 3.70 among qualified pitchers (minimum one inning pitched per game played). Godfrey, Gilchrist, Lopez, and Ryan McGie all have double-digit strikeouts.
 
Bethany Lutheran sits atop the conference at 3-0 with an overall record of 11-2. The Vikings are on a six-game winning streak, having won their last two games, 3-2 and 6-5, against Saint John's University on Tuesday. In the UMAC Preseason Coaches Poll, BLC was selected first. Head coach Ryan Kragh is in his 22nd season leading the program. Jayden Knutson and Kyle Carlberg lead the team with batting averages of .415 and .412, respectively. Aidan Byrd and Nate Hoffman are both 3-0 on the mound, with ERAs of 1.76 and 2.93, respectively.
