Box Score SUPERIOR, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Morris baseball team fell in its final Upper Midwest Athletic Conference game of the season, 8-2, to the University of Wisconsin-Superior Sunday afternoon in Superior, Wis.
The Cougars finish the UMAC regular season in fourth place with a 12-6 conference record and an 18-18 overall mark. The Yellowjackets improve to 25-12 overall and 14-4 in conference play.
UW-Superior took the lead in the bottom of the first on a sacrifice fly. It then became a pitchers' duel over the next inning, with neither team allowing a baserunner.
In the fifth inning, the Cougars recorded their first hit with a double from
Bradie Black.
Taeyvn Brown was hit by a pitch to reach base, and both runners advanced 90 feet on a wild pitch but were left stranded.
Tyler Moriarty reached base for the second time in the game with a single to center field in the sixth inning.
Ben Meuser drew a four-pitch walk to put two runners on with one out. Minnesota Morris tied the game on an RBI single from
Ryan McGie. The Yellowjackets responded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring five runs to regain the lead.
In the ninth, Brown and
Tim Pietsch hit back-to-back singles. An error allowed Brown to score and
Landen Meyerdirk to reach safely. A double play ended the game as UMM fell 8-2.
The Cougars totaled seven hits, with Black leading the way with two. Meyerdirk, Moriarty, McGie, Brown, and Pietsch each added a hit. McGie recorded the lone RBI for UMM, while Moriarty and Brown each scored a run.
Peyton Neadeau started on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while allowing five hits and one earned run.
Johnny Lopez,
Emmett Campbell, and
Tim Buckles closed out the game.
The Cougars will conclude the regular season Monday with a nonconference game against St. John's University, starting at 4 p.m.
