MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris volleyball team starts its second event of the season at the St. Paul Classic with three matches.
 
The Cougars start action on Friday against Augsburg University at 5 p.m. The next day, UMM takes on Carleton College at 10 a.m. and Macalester College at 4 p.m.

In the first week of games, the Cougars went 2-1, falling to Saint Mary's University in five sets before defeating the College of St. Scholastica, 3-2, and Wisconsin Lutheran College, 3-0. Ella Johnson and Natalie Wahl led the attack, tallying 35 and 31 kills, respectively. Sella Fleming set up the attack, totaling 92 assists and earning Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Setter of the Week. Johnson and Rachel Bopp paced the team defensively with 50 digs apiece. Braxtyn Meyer had team highs in blocks (six) and service aces (nine).
 
Augsburg started the season 1-3, taking a 3-0 victory against Lewis & Clark College before dropping its next three matches. Jay Kam is in his second season as the head coach of the Auggies. Taliah Triggs and Lilly Wynn led the team in kills with 38 and 32, respectively. Elise Uphoff leads the defense with 47 digs. Last season, the Cougars defeated the Auggies in five sets.
 
Carleton started 2-2 after a tournament in California. Three of the four matches went four sets, with the other being a three-set sweep against Western New England University. Head coach Abby Walton starts her fifth season with the program. Rachel Bingham has recorded 67 kills this season, including a match with 26. Madeleine Dimitre has a team-leading 115 digs. The Cougars have won the last five meetings between the teams, with UMN Morris winning in five sets last season.
 
Macalester holds a record of 3-2. In its most recent match, the Scots defeated Crown College, 3-2, on Wednesday. Head coach Mary Johnston is in her 11th season with the program. Through five matches, Adonia Anene leads the offense with 48 kills, with Channing Smith following with 41. Defensively, Hannah Morrow paces the Scots with 50 digs, and Kyle Speta has a team-leading seven blocks. The Cougars lead the all-time series with Macalester, but the Scots have won the prior two matches.
