Miranda Brown

Miranda Brown enters her third year as the Director of Tennis at Minnesota Morris in 2020-21. In addition to coaching the men's and women's tennis programs, Brown also has responsibilities as the assistant women’s soccer coach.

In her first season at Minnesota Morris, both the women’s tennis and women’s soccer programs advanced to the UMAC Tournament. Under Coach Brown, the women’s tennis team went 6-7 overall and 4-3 in conference play. Individually for the Cougars, Maddie Johnson and Sam Tate were named First Team All-UMAC with the Cougars advancing to the tournament semifinals. The shortened 2020 season ended with the Cougars posting a 3-1 record and with both Tate and Kate Obright having already received UMAC Player of the Week honors.

Prior to joining the Cougars in the summer of 2018, she served as head varsity boys' and girls' tennis coach at North Central High School in Kershaw, South Carolina. In her first year coaching the program, she took the North Central boys' varsity tennis team to the state playoffs, something that had not been done in several seasons. Brown played tennis for four years at her alma mater, Columbia College.

In addition to her high school coaching experience, Brown has worked with the City of Camden's Tennis Center (South Carolina) - a public facility featuring 16 lighted tennis courts and hosting events like the junior team tennis state championship.

She was also the head tennis instructor at Camp Runoia (Maine) where she tripled the size of their youth tennis program, and a member of the Arthur Ashe Kids Day team in New York City, where she instructed on racket handling, agility, and footwork in a fast-paced environment that engages over 1,000 children with the sport of tennis in a day.

Her first experience teaching tennis occurred at the U.S. Open during an intense volunteer coaching program centered on youth engagement.

A certified Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) instructor, Brown earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Columbia College in behavioral science and psychology. She also recently completed a Master of Public Administration with an emphasis in Public Management from Arkansas State University.
