Box Score

St. Bonifacious, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Morris volleyball team won in dominating fashion today (Oct. 1), posting a 3-0 road win over Crown.

The Cougars held the Strom to less than 17 points in each set, and forced them into a hitting percentage at or below .000 in all three sets. The Cougars hit over .300 in the first at second set, including a match high of .333 in the second.

Minnesota, Morris (9-10, 2-2) gets back to even in UMAC play, notching their first conference win since the opening of league action. Crown (2-12, 0-3), meanwhile, stays winless in UMAC play, and falls for the sixth straight time.

Three different Cougars finished with double figures for kills, led by Megan Theis (Shakopee, Minn.) with 11. Theis goes over the 10 mark for the 10th time on the season, and has been on a tear lately with 10 or more kills in three straight matches.  She made just one error in 19 total attempts and hit an amazing .526 in the match.

Allie Humphrey (Minnetonka, Minn.) swung for eight kills on the night, and finished with an impressive hitting percentage of her own at .400.

The Cougars finished with 42 kills in the match, compared to just 14 for the Storm, while UMM forced CC into 17 errors. Four different players ended the match hitting for a negative percentage, while none were in the positive.

The Cougars tallied 53 digs on the night, as well as seven total blocks, as they always had an answer for the Storm attack. Kaylie Clark (Garden Plains, Kans.) led the way with 14 digs while Theis led up front with two solo blocks and four block assists. The seven block assists were just one shy of their season high of eight, set just yesterday.

The Cougars return home briefly next week, for a midweek match-up with Presentation on Tues. Oct. 5 at 7:00 p.m. They then get back on the road to Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther on Oct. 8 and 9 respectively.
