Ashland, Wis. – The University of Minnesota, Morris men's soccer team got back in the win column in a big way today (Sept. 26) posting a 7-0 win in the road over Northland.
Minnesota, Morris (3-3-3, 2-1-1) scored just once in the first half, but came back for six in the final period, posting their highest scoring total of the season. Matt Johnson (Monument, Colo.) led off the second half scoring outburst with a goal just 70 seconds after the opening kick.
After going up 2-0, the Cougars never looked back. Johnson was assisted by Toby Glaser (Colorado Springs, Colo.) who went on to finish with five points on the day, scoring two goals of his own to go along with the assist.
Glaser got the game winner as well, scoring just over 10 minutes into the match to give the Cougars the early 1-0 lead. He was assisted by Gerg Borchers (Wesminster, Colo.) who finished with a pair of assists in the match.
Dustin Lee (Alexandria, Minn.) also scored early in the second off a corner kick, and Ryan Cadigan (Sedona, Ariz.) would join Glaser as two goal scorers with a pair late in the second half. Noah Hecht (Little Falls, Ariz.) was the final Cougar to find the net, scoring unassisted in the 85th minute.
The Cougars took and even 14 shots in each half in their way to outshooting the LumberJacks 28-to-0. Seventeen of the Cougars shots landed on goal, as two Northland keepers combined to rack up 10 saves on the day.
Cougar netminder Tyler Simpson (Broomfield, Colo.) gets the win and improves to 3-1-2 on the season.
Next up the Cougars return home to host Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther on Oct. 1 and 2 respectively.
